Dear Journalist:
South Lake Tahoe is a premier winter vacation destination boasting the most snow in the U.S., an average high temperature of 35-40 degrees, and over 300 days of sunshine a year. This winter season, discover first hand all of this and more, including new ski lifts, improved trails, terrain parks, zipline, après parties and headliner entertainment.
With all these activities, it’s no wonder that Lake Tahoe was named the “No. 1 Travel Destination in the U.S” and the “No. 10 Destination Worldwide” by TripAdvisor, an online social network with over 30 million monthly visitors who post reviews and opinions on destinations worldwide.
Other Lake Tahoe awards include top rankings from Orbitz.com as the No. 1 ski destination in 2007, Top Ten for Ski Towns by SKI and Skiing Magazine, (Oct. 08)and Transworld Snowboarding for diverse categories such as snow quality, scenery, off-hill activities, and terrain parks for Heavenly Mountain Resort, Kirkwood Mountain Resort and Sierra-at-Tahoe.
Living up to the destination’s accolades, South Shore’s Mountain Resorts offer a variety of terrain and some of the deepest snow in the country, along with spectacular lake views. From beginner slopes to world-renowned steeps, each resort boasts distinct personalities. To learn about the newest resort enhancements and environmental initiatives for Winter 2008-09, click here.
The casino thoroughfare--Hwy 50 on down to Hwy 89--is South Shore Lake Tahoe’s entrance into the hottest clubs, hippest bars, variety of dining, live music, film festivals, art exhibits, gaming and headliner entertainment. Unlike other mountain towns, visitors can find tranquility in the natural environment, adventure on and off the slopes and an abundance of nightlife that happens 24/7.
Throughout the winter season, some of the most sultry, enticing and adventurous festivals and events warm the chill in the air. South Shore’s Sixth Annual Tahoe Adventure Film Festival takes place December 13 at the MontBleu Theatre, with new action and adventure film clips from around the world – everything from BASE jumping, skiing, downhill mountain biking, rock climbing, kayaking, surfing, deep water soloing – no gear, no ropes, climbing rocks over water and a few surprise sports.
